The theme of the book is the main character Mouk goes on a journey around the world. You find Mouk in a different country on each page(well double page if you see what I mean!). He visits Japan, Greece, France, Lapland, Mexico, America - and more. There's no 'story' as such, but you thread together a story by reading all the speech bubbles of the various animals he meets along the way as there are only animals in the book (as opposed to people). I bought this for my little boy when he was around 2 years old. At that time he loved pointing out the animals he recognized. Now he is almost four and I read him what the animals are saying in the speech bubbles (which are either informative like teaching you how to say hello in whichever country he is in, or just funny!). It really gets him engaged and he asks a lot of questions about the pictures. We now use it to talk about different countries of the world and teach him about different cultures. The detail in the pictures is just immense, it must have taken aaaages to draw! It's so beautiful cheery to look at, I'd happily put the pages up in my home as artwork. This is definitely my favourite book to look at (selfishly) at book time with my little boy because I still find parts of the book I haven't noticed before. I'd wholeheartedly recommend this book.
