5.0 out of 5 stars Requested by my daughter-in-law as a gift
Phil Moore's 'Straight from the Heart' series gives the reader a succinct overview of each book. The book informs the reader of the essential points of each book. These points, in turn, challenge the honest seeker to move forward in their journey through life accompanied by this amazing, loving God in order to know the power that changes things for individuals and...

3.0 out of 5 stars An incomplete and opinionated 'Commentary'
A curates egg of a book. The overall impression it creates is of someone using the accounts of the early church in Acts to put across his strong opinions about how the Church of today should be going about its ministry. This would be better done in a book on that particular subject so that in the commentary he could let the stories in Acts speak for themselves. There are...

5.0 out of 5 stars Action Acts, 13 Mar 2012
By
This review is from: Straight to the Heart of Acts: 60 Bite-Sized Insights (The Straight to the Heart Series) (Paperback)
The exciting message of Acts is faithfully developed and applied. The theme of ordinary people fitting in with an all action loving God, is just the encouragement every believer needs to carry out the Lord's command to be his witnesses. Without the power and dynamic of God's Spirit all efforts are feeble at best. I have recommended the "Straight to the Heart" series to several friends.

These books really do open up the scriptures as well as giving one a desire to go through all of the books. Would thouroughly recommend these books to anyone wanting to delve deeper into the word. So easy to read as well.

5.0 out of 5 stars Succinct and relevant, 17 April 2013

Not a book for those who want to explore every meaning of every word, every possible translation and every possible interpretation; rather a book for those who are listening for a fresh take on familiar stories, and for material to stimulate response both as a reasder and as a preacher.

A curates egg of a book. The overall impression it creates is of someone using the accounts of the early church in Acts to put across his strong opinions about how the Church of today should be going about its ministry. This would be better done in a book on that particular subject so that in the commentary he could let the stories in Acts speak for themselves. There are some parts of the book that do bring light to the passages. But, on the other hand, some verses aren't commented on at all. And, by sod's law, those verses were the very ones that I sought illumination of from the commentary!
The book is sub-titled '60 Bite Sized Insights' which indicates a better way to approach it. Not as a commentary, but as an interesting set of short thought-provoking essays to use as part of your regular Prayer & Study time.
