5.0 out of 5 stars A toy epic by Emyr Humphreys, 28 Jan. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: A toy epic (Paperback)
A gentle coming of age story of three boys from different social backgrounds, set near the coast of North wales in the 1950s.
The story explores the influence of parental expectations, religion and Welsh culture and language when the world is also changing.
Beautifully written with poignancy and humour.

5.0 out of 5 stars A master photographer, using words as his camera..?, 24 April 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: A Toy Epic (Paperback)
Yes, using words as his camera. The three characters of the novel appear in small episodes, constructing a patchwork quilt of life in Wales in the 1930s. The effect is amazing. You have the impression of looking through a dusty photo album into a past that seems not so distant from today. The characters you recognise, sort of as if they are long lost relatives that you love and are coming to know. They are characters that you really feel for. Basically, this book is superb, and should be recognised as a classic of modern Anglo-Welsh literature.

5.0 out of 5 stars Really good book for buying for Chistmas presents., 22 Nov. 2004
This review is from: A Toy Epic (Paperback)
Lush novel. Really good to read and like watchin a film or programme off the tele really. Wicked plot, tidy. No problem.
A good narration cos it goes back into time but comes forward like a flashback but the other direction. Captivating, good for the price if you can't afford lots of books. Brilliant characters, setting, mood and metamaphors! Just well written in genral like. Buy this book for a present for Christmas - for yew brother. By it from amazon.
