Durnford-Slater's 'Commando' is one of those books that many of us were brought up with - a WW2 memoir of the Commandos which has been reprinted in many editions over the years, even though the author died in the early 1970s. This evergreen title is the autobiography of the commanding officer of No 3 Commando - though interestingly he claims that he was the 'first' commando soldier since No 1 & 2 Commandos were slow to form.

A fascinating first hand account - which should perhaps be read in conjunction with Young's 'Storm from the Sea', as both were in the same unit, and Young's diaries were used in the writing of both.
