This review is from: How to Teach Writing Across the Curriculum at Key Stage 2: Developing Creative Literacy (Writers' workshop series) (Paperback)
Everyone says how important it is to teach story writing, but it can be really hard to demonstrate this to children. In this book Sue Palmer really breaks it down into manageable steps. She covers each section of a story - planning, beginnings, build-up, suspense and so on. For each section she gives suggestions on how to get it across to children by using shared texts, modelling etc. and provides annotated examples to help the teacher. She even adds a comprehensive list of story starters for those occasions when you're too drained to think of your own! This book is a superb resource and I have found it essential when teaching story. It has made the difference between the temptation of saying, "Write a story about...", and actually TEACHING the process.
Invaluable.

A brilliant resource that shows well the stages of development of certain genres across KS2. Helps planning as it is easy to see what they should achieve.
