5.0 out of 5 stars This should be required reading..., 28 April 2009

This review is from: Your Church and the Law: A Simple Explanation and Guide (Paperback)
This should be required reading for all Anglican ordinands, clergy, churchwardens, PCC members and, indeed, anyone else with an interest in how the church functions.
David Parrott's easy, eminently-readable style belies the fact that this is a detailed and accurate guide through the quicksands of the law as it applies to churches. Want to know about how to appoint a vicar? It's all here. Need a Faculty? He tells you all about it in understandable terms. Worried whether you're complying with the law on protecting children, or health & safety, or the Charities Act or a host of other legislation? Worry no longer; this book has it all covered.
I shall be recommending this book to all my clergy and wardens. It could halve the number of phone calls I receive, and do the same to the levels of anxiety in those with responsibilities in our parishes.

5.0 out of 5 stars Highly practical and readable guide to the subject, 12 April 2009

This review is from: Your Church and the Law: A Simple Explanation and Guide (Paperback)
David Parrott has written an excellent practical guide to the subject of how the law - both ecclesiastical and civil - applies to the Church of England. It is thoroughly readable and well organised. Having already had several occasions to refer to it since I bought it, I can vouch for the ease of finding information, and the genuine usefulness of Mr. Parrott's answers. Often his answer is all that's needed, but he also provides thorough references to further sources of information should these be needed. This book will definitely be the first place I look in future on church law questions, and I recommend it highly for anyone connected with the functioning of the church.

5.0 out of 5 stars "does what it says on the packet", 31 Dec. 2008
This review is from: Your Church and the Law: A Simple Explanation and Guide (Paperback)
David Parrott's book is a must for any priest, church warden or member of PCC. As he entitles it, it is a simple guide, but not simplistic! He clearly takes a difficult and complex subject and makes it relevant and with the use of humour navigates the reader past the countless pitfalls in church law and brings them to a safe understanding.

4.0 out of 5 stars Your Church and the Law: A Simple Explanation and Guide, 4 April 2011
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Your Church and the Law: A Simple Explanation and Guide (Paperback)
This is a really useful and practical book and I can recommend it to anyone who would like an introduction into the Church of England's system of Canon Law. Covering many aspects of Church (Canon)Law in respect of for example: worship, funerals and graveyards, child protection, the occasional offices and so on, each section begins with a case scenario and then David Parrot takes the reader through the relevant Church Laws and how they support and guide the issue under examination. Parrot takes the potentially dry subject of Canon Law and in this very readable book makes the legislation more interesting and understandable. Each section ends with a resource section pointing the reader to more in-depth reading and online material.

This book is a must for anyone entering into a role within the Church of England which involves the day-today running of a parish, lay and ordained, or just interested in why the Church of England has these laws and how they ultimately help the Church in her mission.
