5.0 out of 5 stars A little gem of useful wisdom, 20 Dec 2004
This review is from: The Little Book of the Tao Te Ching (Little Books) (Hardcover)
This is a very short read, to be enjoyed for a lifetime.
In 40 pages or so of simple, concise and profound delight, John Mabry has achieved a clear-minded translation into plain English of some of the most helpful verses of Lao Tzu's 'Tao Te King'.
Lao Tzu convincingly spoke of forgiveness, eternal life, being good to friend and enemy, while giving many other teachings that Jesus would have approved of - including a few rules to follow in order to enjoy peace and happiness and get things done. Such things, he said, may be known by listening to the Tao. What is the Tao? No physical description may be given, for the Tao is just the 'source' of all reality, and such a loving mother that it will accept the sinner back into its fold the minute they become good.
Few things are as useful as realising this. John Mabry's translation allows us to regain faith and peace in a confusing age, when the desire to own and the achievements of technology may well distract or discourage many people from finding any meaning to their lives.
