A lovely book!
Clear and informative text as is expected from Rosemary Crill. The joy of the book, to me, lies in the quality of the photographs and the choice of the examples showing the clarity of colour but keeping the subtlety. How fabric pattern is used within garments is made very clear. The detail of the designs is explicit, but shown generously on the page. I shall use it as a sourcebook for design for embroidery.I'm very happy to own this book.

I am interested in books about materials for clothing and how they came to Europe. This books gives interesting information about the way these chintzes came to north-western Europe and how they changed and developed. Very interesting, a lot of information, great pictures. A pity these materials are not easy to find anymore. This book makes me want to know even more about this subject.

I am thrilled with this book, as the photos are in great detail. I ordered it after reading a review highlighting its use for embroidery design and that is exactly what I will use it for - as well as making a stunning coffee table book. If you love fabric and chintz or love to create your own embroidery, this is the book for you!

No index???????????????????? But who cares this book is a treat of visual stimulation. Fabulous chintz in clear detail. A great design source, for both colour and shape. Some of the pieces have very wide date estimates. For all it's faults I would still say this is a must have book on your shelf. It you are a quilter like me then team it with Chintz Quilts by Kay Triplett not available on UK Amazon as yet but available from the 'mother' site. Neither are pattern books but both get the creative juices flowing.
