rUSH OUT TO BUY THIS BEAUTIFUL BOOK NOW!,

This review is from: Georgian Jewellery: 1714-1830 (Hardcover)
Olivia Collings and friends have produced a book which is both ravishing to look at, a feast for the eyes, and also well written and extrememly informative. I bought 15 copies to give as Christmas presents to friends and family, goddaughters etc and everyone has been thrilled to receive it. Most of our present day 'modern' jewellery is copied from the Gerogian originals which are there to see in all their beauty. It is both a reference and collectors book and I urge anyone with the slightest interest in jewelery to buy up as many copies as you can of this completel joy and delight.

I am really pleased with this book. I have many books on jewellery and find that the same examples crop up over and over again. This one, I found, was completely different. The examples shown are beautiful and the photographs are stunning. Superficially it is a nice big coffee-table book but there is also lots of information on Georgian jewellery. There is no price guide but it has so much going for it that I wouldn't let that deter you! I thought I was being a little extravagant buying this but I will spend hours looking at it so it's 5* from me!

What can I say ? This book is a feast for the eyes and it's definetly more than just a pretty coffee-table piece! The pictures are not only professional, but gorgeous and mesmerizing to look at! The text is competent, precise and flowing. The time period covered goes from early Georgian era to the Romantic decades, with a broader look on the Regency years. It's not difficult to imagine these beautiful jewells being weared on the magnificient gowns of their contemporary fashion. If you're a fashion history student or lover, make yourself a gift and buy this book or give it to someone you know will appreciate! |
