Was mistaken by buying as title is a misprint and should be Shadow of the Almighty.
Misprint appears only on cover, so I ended up buying two books from different suppliers
thinking they were different books, when in fact they were one and the same.

5.0 out of 5 stars Challenging, Inspiring and Motivating!, 19 Feb 1999

This is a must read for all Christians who have any desire to know Christ and to offer their lives to him. If not, this book will definitely challenge you to do so. Shadow of the Almighty mainly consists of letters and journal entries Jim wrote while at college and while preparing and serving on the mission field. It represents a great example, not of a perfect man, but of a man who wanted to live his life fully for Christ, no matter what the cost. The main message is that to know Christ is to obey him, and that Christ is worth laying down anything and everything. Thus, Jim's famous words: "He is no fool who gives what he cannot keep to gain what he cannot lose." Jim is an inspiration and example to me as I prepare to serve as a missionary in some of the most unreached places on earth.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great book about a man dedicated to doing the will of God, 21 Jan 1999
By A Customer
Shadow of the Almighty tells the remarkable testimony of a Godly man. This book makes you want to read the Bible from cover to cover. Jim was a man who consulted God's will in all he did. The story ends with his death in the jungles of Equador by the Auca indians. This book is truely one of the great Christian classics of the twentieth century. You won't want to put it down.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must-read for EVERY Christian man., 24 April 1998
By A Customer
Elisabeth Elliot has wonderfully written a book about how one's life is lived, DAILY, in full submission to God. The journals of the late Jim Elliot paint the picture of his intimate love relationship with his Lord and Saviour that will inspire all Christian men AND women. It shows how Scriptural truths are lived out in the daily grind of life. Again, this is a must-read.

Ellisabeth Elliot does her husband honour, thy way it is written and what is written has encouraged me so much, to have a heart after God is the most important issue in our lives.

Telling the story of Jim Elliot, mainly before his missionary journey, gives a brilliant account of a Godly man. How he lived for God during university, his relationships his family and Elizabeth is all encompassed in this book. It is very inspirational and encourages us to live out our whole lives in faith.

5.0 out of 5 stars Challenge from an extraordinary Christian, 21 Mar 2011
By
BAH Wilson (Newtownhamilton) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This review is from: The Shadow of the Almighty (Authentic Classics) (Paperback)
Jim Elliot is a figure whose life and testimony still challenge mediocrity in Christian living, years after he and his friends were martyred by the Auca Indians. I read 'Shadow of the Almighty' in my teen-age years and it and 'Through gates of splendour' have left an indelible impression upon me. 'Shadow of the Almighty' gives insight into an intelligent, athletic young man, surrendered to God's will and with a deep sense of the Gospel's urgency. I still keep coming back to these journal entries for both quotation and challenge.

If you have not read 'Shadow of the Almighty', you are missing out on a book which is not only well-written and memorable, but also one to shatter comfortable Christianity and complacency about the Great Commission to proclaim the Gospel to the remotest parts of the earth.

4.0 out of 5 stars A honest publisher, 26 Feb 2011
At least the title is correct in this edition. However it lacks the 'count'
on the tops of the pages which inform you of Jim Elliot's age at certain
events.Incredible that these events happened over 50 years ago when I was
about 10 and yet when you hear the names, the events refresh themselves
in your memory.
