This is my number 1 buy of the year. I can't praise this book highly enough.
Helen Parrott, trained earlier on as a geographer and there is something very interesting about the perspective of textile artists who have a background in the physical sciences.
The marks are drawn, pressed or stitched onto all sorts of media - wall paper, fabrics, etc; they are ostensibly simple but the effects are nothing less than astonishing. Less is definitely more.
The whole book is lovely to hold like many new textile books at the moment - the pictures and illustrations are clear and very helpful. Helen Parrott takes the reader through observing and identifying line and form in the world of reality and gives lots of ideas on how to use that collection of visual knowledge in the design process.
It really is a book I have been waiting for.
