5.0 out of 5 stars Review : Kinect in Motion - Audio and Visual Tracking by Example, 2 July 2013
This review is from: Kinect in Motion Audio and Visual Tracking by Example (Paperback)
Recently I started my study and work with Kinect for Windows, whilst looking for reference material, I came across the book,

First chapter: It gives a introduction on the hardware requirements and SDK documentation.

It explains what is required and how to start your journey into Kinect as well as architecture of stack which builds foundation of the Kinect for Windows.

Second Chapter: This chapter gives you details of how to work with Image Streams, various types of Image streams and how one relates to another.

It also gives you overview of Depth Range and explains how to map color frame to depth frame etc.

Third Chapter: This chapter is all about Skeleton Tracking.

It shows you how to track Xbox users, copy skeleton data and how to recognise if the user is standing or seated.

This chapter also deals with detecting simple actions and joint movements

Fourth Chapter: In this chapter is about speech recognition API ( SAPI ), grammer and Microsoft.Speech Library.

It also describes how to track audio sources, and audio source angles.

it also shows, how the application provides notification of speech recognition and rejection of a given command etc.

The book also explains how to save time for debugging recording and playing commands by using "Kinect Studio". also it shows you how to inject color and depth streams and use them to test.

There are a lot of examples that help to understand all features and gradually go deeper into the understanding of the development with Kinect.

This book is useful also for expert developer because introduces interesting tricks.

Bundled code is also very easy to follow and tryout which helps one, taking practical code snippets and expand on a given area in their own application.

Overall, the style of this book is clean, focused and to the point.

Highly recommend this book for anyone interested in programming with Kinect on PC.

5.0 out of 5 stars the way to go if you want to get started with kinect programming, 2 July 2013
This review is from: Kinect in Motion Audio and Visual Tracking by Example (Paperback)
This book has a very straight-forward approach to kinect programming.
By keeping it simple and concise you can easily understand and get into kinect!
It's even got an hardware overview, which I found great in order to further understand.
Even though it is a small book, you'll be amazed on how quickly you'll start programming with Kinect just by following the examples.

If you have any programming basis and want to get started with Kinect, this book is a great tool.
