4.0 out of 5 stars The ego has landed!! Not a run of the mill cook book, 11 Feb 2013
This review is from: Gordon Ramsay 3 Star Chef (Hardcover)
Love him or hate him, with three Michelin stars to his name, Gordon Ramsay is undeniably one of THE best chefs on the planet. Having said that I suspect that only he could produce a book with so much pomp. It's too big for the bookshelf!

Some of the recipes in here are challenging and involve a number of steps, definitely not for the faint heated. To be fair this book shows how to make pretty much the same recipes that Ramsay produces at his restaurant so be prepared for some difficulty. He is a chef at the top of his game and profession and this shows in the book.

The book contains the best pictures I have ever seen in a cook book, it is beautiful, stunning in fact. The book conveys the prestige standard of the restaurant. It is a beautiful and don't let the complexity put you off, the results are worth the effort. There are also some recipes in there which are not difficult at all, the tarte tatin for example is easy peasy! I have learnt a lot from the ideas and it offers a fascinating glimpse into the intricate world of food elevated to the highest level.

For very special occasions this book is amazing but be prepared to hunt for some of the ingredients!!

5.0 out of 5 stars The perfect book to take your cooking to the next level!, 14 May 2013

This review is from: Gordon Ramsay 3 Star Chef (Hardcover)
This is not just a book, it's a work of art! The presentation and the quality of the images are, in themselves, Michelin standard and show how perfectly the food should be presented. It really gives you something to aim for! The book starts by describing the effort involved in the day to day running of a 3 star restaurant, which is clearly no mean feat. Gordon's passion for cooking and his desire for perfecton really shine through. The beutifully detailed pictures of each dish leave you wishing you could cook them, so it's a very pleasant surprise when you turn to the second section of the book and realise that these are the recipes on offer! There are numerous starters, mains and desserts, of varying complexity. These are not 30 minute dishes and certainly not for the faint hearted, so if beans on toast is your forte, look elsewhere. However, if you're prepared to put in the effort and spend a whole day creating a sublime meal, this may well be the book for you. To be honest, though, it's actually worth buying just because it's so pretty!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book for food inspiration, and is a good recipe book for those who really do have skills., 23 Feb 2014

This is a great book if you want to jump to another level of cooking. It is illustrated very lively and contains 51 recipes of starters, main courses and desserts. These recipes really require budget for which there are many rare and expensive ingredients. In order to cook these recipes, you must also have real cookery skills. Normally, Ramsay made videos on how he cooks his dishes; I'm a bit sad that he didn't do the same thing for this book. Alternatively, this book is still good if you just simply like cooking and want to know more about the culinary world. The only thing I dislike is the separate book cover.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great recipes but prepare yourself for 130 pages of mania grandiosa, 7 July 2013

Great recipes and illustrations are fab, no one would ever deny that Gordon is a great chef but here he is not winning any stars for modesty. I have met some people who were knighted for their outstanding achievements in medicine that saved thousands of people and none of them have 130 pages of narcissism in their books.

4.0 out of 5 stars Challenging & passionate book, 11 Sep 2012

This review is from: Gordon Ramsay 3 Star Chef (Hardcover)
This elegant looking book is the first from Gordon Ramsay I own. As all Quadrille book, it's beautifully presented, with fantastic photography and graphics. The first part is Gordon's passionate tale of how a Michelin 3* restaurant is run, from the early morning table setting to the late night team camaraderie. I really liked this, and even if it does come across as a self-congratulating (which is fair enough at 3*) it does offer a great insight into the world of chefs. The food is stunning and I cant wait to try his Hospital Road restaurant. There are tons of recipes, listed at the end of the book, most of which are fairly challenging but also well explained and detailed so I'm looking forward to trying some of these soon.
