Yet another well-presented yearbook in the handy square format. A large part is naturally devoted to a review of last season and a preview of the next - mainly in the form of beautiful annotated colour plates. The varied programmes show off the multi-talents of the Royal Ballet stars and dancers, incorporating classical ballets, popular works by Ashton, Balanchine, Cranko, Tetley, Macmillan, Bintley and exciting new ventures by Mcgregor, Wheeldon,Watkins and Scarlett. One is more appreciative of the superb photographs having read the article by Will Richmond on capturing ballet movement in still images. There are also historical reviews of Valois, the Royal Ballet abroad and a company chronology. In addition, fulsome tributes are paid to departing members of the company. The gallery of black and white thumbnail portraits of the artists, with biographical details, reveals more of the personalities of the dancers who are usually disguised by face-paint and costume. A tempting list of ballet DVDs and books concudes the issue. I wait impatiently for Yearbook 2011-12, an essential companion for all ballet fans.

I have purchased this as a Christmas gift for a friend who is very keen on the ballet. I have only had a brief look through it. It seems very interesting and informative. The photos are beautiful. I think anyone with an interest in ballet would be pleased with it.
