Fascinating and eye opening look into this persons life. Well written and gripping account of a man who lost his way.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wanted More, 9 Nov 2013

Please write a Part 2 Dave, I loved this book, especially as Spector hasn't had much biography. Not just interesting because of the subject, but well contextualised in his era. I want to know more about how he's doing now!

4.0 out of 5 stars Don't Forget the Music, 8 Aug 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
It was a pleasure to read a book about Spector that focused primarily on the music. I knew a bit about Spector's music and the details of his production techniques but learned a lot more from this book. I particularly enjoyed the section on 'Death of a Ladies Man'. Leonard Cohen has spoken from the heart about his deep loathing of that album and Spector's methods - maybe in part because the album captures somthing real about Cohen's emotional state at that time. 'Wall of pain' reminds us that we should value artists for the art they create. The "first tycoon of teen" was clearly a twisted and deeply unpleasant person with terrible taste in wigs. However, work like 'You've Lost that Loving Feeling', 'River Deep. Mountain High' - and, dare I say it - 'Death of a Ladies Man' transcend the personal limitations of the man who produced them. This is Dave Thompson's thesis and he is right.
