I found this book very engaging. He spoke in a very honest and understanding way. I have read through it without making notes but shall now reread it making the necessary notes. Which will not be a task but will reinforce some of his key points. Enabling me to gain the best from his advice.

This book is really good for understanding how to build your confidence. If, like me, that's something you struggle with and you're fed up with being told "you just need to feel/ be more confident" but with no one seeming to know how to do that, then read this book. The way the book describes/ talks about confidence is really helpful and it describes an approach to building confidence that actually works. Part of that is challenging your perception of what confidence is and how you get it; it's a subtle point but makes a real difference. The book doesn't provide a quick fix, but it doesn't pretend to and if you want lasting confidence, a quick fix is not going to give you that. I found the practices and understanding it provides do work.

Personally, I found the way the book is written quite cheesy and is a bit too typical of other self-help books (and I've read a lot!); some people may appreciate or may not mind that, but it did grate on my nerves. However, I did find it worth sticking with. I've rated it 4 stars for what I've got out of it, but it would've rated it 3 stars if it was just for the book and the style of writing alone.

ACT is based in Mindfulness and there are better books available to learn about Mindfulness, for example, "Mindfulness - A practical guide to finding peace in a frantic world" by Mark Williams and Danny Penman, is excellent. I'm glad I discovered Mindfulness first, as I feel practicing that has been a massive help for coping with negative thoughts and expectations, anxiety and fears; the things that can and do undermine your confidence. Once you have that basis and add the practices and understanding of how to build confidence provided in this book, you're onto a winner! I found it has helped me and I hope it will help you too!

For anyone looking for that magical silver bullet this isn't. But its a brilliant book that can shift your perception in how you deal with fear, to make major improvements in your life.

I recommend making notes of the advice and suggestions that resonate with you and practise them as often as possible.

There are some unfortunate positive references to Lance Armstrong which could do with editing out with recent events, but just ignore this and except the wider point Dr Russ is making.

Excellent motivating tips with this book, I frequently review extracts and quotes gathered. ACT leads you to expand how you view confidence, it certainly means something different to me now.

I have listed this book via audible. During the audio listening, chapters ended strangely so I though it was the file. Contacted audible, they checked the printed version and it was the same. This book has "some" good eye opener lines like "where does the theory comes from that we only use 10% of our brain" or he educates you about being and thinking positive. But the book fails because it creates this textbook feeling that you need one of his goal sheets (downloading and writing things done). He could have done a better job but this book fails its promise. There are better books about the confidence.

Explained in a simple way with supporting materials and videos on the website, The Confidence Gap shows practical ways to overcome anxiety, stress and a number of related problems. It makes the potentially impossible achievable. A recent discovery in psychoanalysis, The Confidence Gap shows how to practice mindfulness using various techniques. This isn't just a book to sit and read, its a manual which, when used as suggested, works.
