3.0 out of 5 stars More of a pamphlet than a book
This is a very thin booklet in an A4 large print format. It is clearly intended as a very rudimentary self help guide to the basics of insomnia and does that job in a fairly easy to follow fashion. In fact, if anything, it is almost a bit too simple and would have benefitted from a bit more detail as, I suspect, it is the moderately sophisticated reader who is likely to...

5.0 out of 5 stars A valuable tool for any insomniac, 10 Mar. 2015

I have suffered with extreme insomnia for over 30 years - this book explains that there are different types of insomnia and helped me to gain a clear understanding of my problem. I bought Espie's Overcoming insomnia and although it is a tough programme to follow, my life is finally back on track! If you are suffering then buy this book and give yourself a chance, it's better than taking sleeping pills which are so damaging to our health.

The best place to start if you want to buy a book on insomnia. Prof Espie does a much longer more complex book called Overcoming Insomnia which is a good guide.
It is best if you follow the 8 week course of sleep restriction rather than just reading the book for general tips and advice, though it may be easier to so the SLEEPIO online course, which is similar info but an easy online course

This is a very thin booklet in an A4 large print format. It is clearly intended as a very rudimentary self help guide to the basics of insomnia and does that job in a fairly easy to follow fashion. In fact, if anything, it is almost a bit too simple and would have benefitted from a bit more detail as, I suspect, it is the moderately sophisticated reader who is likely to seek out this kind of help.

Colin Espie is a well respected clinical psychologist and sleep researcher, so the advice is sound, reliable and based on considerable experience. The advice will certainly be a useful start for anyone who has been suffering sleeplessness.
