5.0 out of 5 stars Honest John Reveals All
Ever wondered what goes on behind the scenes at a football club? How transfers are made to happen (or not as the case may be), how agents and the press are attempted to be manipulated (and how it can sometimes backfire), how legislation and finance can make or break a club. Ever wondered how the clubs not fortunate to have a rich Arabian 'sugar daddy' deal with all this...

3.0 out of 5 stars The one year of glory
A very enjoyable read for any Barnsley fan who wishes to relive the year in the Premiership and then understand why it all went downhill for a period.

Ever wondered what goes on behind the scenes at a football club? How transfers are made to happen (or not as the case may be), how agents and the press are attempted to be manipulated (and how it can sometimes backfire), how legislation and finance can make or break a club. Ever wondered how the clubs not fortunate to have a rich Arabian 'sugar daddy' deal with all this and try to survive? Well, even if you haven't, I challenge any genuine football fan not to become engrossed in this revealing account of how Dennis - and his father before him - transformed a 'rag bag' football club near the foot of Division 4 and on the brink of extinction to a set up worthy of gaining promotion to the Premier League. And then see how all the good work nearly slipped away as the club sank down the leagues, into Administration and nearly into financial oblivion again. As a lifelong Barnsley fan, this account scored highly in many respects, not least for the notsaglia value, but you don't have to be a fan of the Reds to enjoy this plain but well written, often humourous account of the man once mistaken by Leicester fans as 'Jan Molby' and referred to by ex Oakwell midfielder Jovo Bosancic as 'Mr President'. Highly recommended!
