An interesting read...
on 16 June 2011
Bought this book as I was looking for a book containing several speeches I was trying to track down, simply (and perhaps sadly) for my own pleasure. Although I will agree that it is exactly as it says on the tin, and contains several important speeches I'd been hoping to read, it is in fact more like a bit of a jumble store in the way it has been presented.
The full-page pictures I assumed would offer a clear separation of chapters, but even this seems to be visually confusing. Too many different fonts and a strange layout mean that it's also hard to identify the actual speeches from general information on the speech or speech-giver.
I also must add that it's a slight mis-sell, as the speeches aren't there in their entirety, many are only extracts (or in Jesus's case, just a few lines from Matthew - hardly a speech), and there is no reference to the version it has been taken from. Hm.
In all honesty, if you want a cheap bargain for an insight into major speeches, then it's worth picking up as the actual content and history behind the speeches is all very interesting, and once you get past the off-putting layout, is well-researched and enjoyable content.
However, if you want the whole speech, or something as more of an academic reference, steer well clear of this book.
