This graphic novel was first published in 2009, and has collected two stories. Rift War is a ten part story of some 110 pages, so it is a complex and lengthy tale. The remaining story in the book is Jetsam, a 10 page story.
Rift War is a ten-parter, and the artwork is done by different artists throughout the separate parts. The quality of the artwork does differ somewhat, so it makes it a bit disjointed overall, I thought. That's not to say the artwork is bad, it is more that each artist has taken a different approach to the characters, and the settings, so the flow is not perhaps as coherent as it would be if there were fewer differing graphics and page layout approaches. The story itself is very good; a true Torchwood story, it has the team fighting aliens who appear to be attacking through the Rift, and creating new rifts through which to appear at will. But Jack, Gwen, Ianto, Owen and Tosh find that there is much more to this than just an alien attack force. Great stuff.
The other story, Jetsam, is a short story about things washing up on shore. A dark story, the artwork offers narrow perspectives on the action, and the story moves rapidly. Another good classic Torchwood tale.
