Simply Superb - the best book on the subject by far
on 26 August 2013
The author James Dunning earned his green beret as a WW2 Commando, he fought at Dieppe and was later to become an instructor at Achnacarry. You could call it a reference book but it is so much more. Mr Dunning has an excellent writing style and the contents, history and even the relaying of a few stories are extremely informative and entertaining. It concentrates a lot on the training of the Commandos from its founding to the end of the war. It explains the fighting stlyes, the personalities, their ability to adapt, and what made them the elite and respected fighting force they would become.
This book has been some time coming to kindle and although I have an original hard copy as well I just HAD to buy it again electronically.
This exceptional book portrays those times, the training, the terrain, the weapons, the tactics and IS in my opinion the BEST book on the subject bar none.
