4.0 out of 5 stars god book
This is a reasonable book on the subject but at this price is a must have for anyone with an interest in old golf equipment.

The Crowood Autoclassics series of books is a large collection of affordable motor books, usually written by renowned writers, that oddly has a rather uneven level of quality between its more than eighty books. Unfortunately this is one of the worst of this series.

The book is about one of the best subjects there is on the automobile panorama of the seventies and eighties in Europe. A car so important that created its own niche market and that, at the image of the muscle cars of the sixties in US, motivated a fanatic following by a thrill seeking youth and the correspondent insurance company driven backlash in the nineties. I'm talking about the Golf GTi.

On this subject much as been written but a lot more could be said. Unfortunately this book says nothing new about it as it is a gigantic copy-paste exercise, with the words taken from VW brochures and period magazines and shoddily stuck together to form a kind of text.

The photos chosen to illustrate the book are not much better. The ones that came from VW are okay but the rest were taken at club meetings and show modified cars badly lit. Sad.

I bought this book (fortunately at a reduced price) with high hopes. They were crushed. I now understand why the book was published under an assumed name. I would be ashamed of it too.

5.0 out of 5 stars Golf Gti book, 8 Nov 2013

I enjoyed reading this book about the GTI. Unfortunately it only goes up to the Mark 5 but inevitably any book written is going to be a little behind. I look forward to the publication of an update.
My husband bought me this book when I got my first GTi (mark 6), I purchased this one as a gift for someone.
