5.0 out of 5 stars Bear essentials...
This is a lovely book as expected of Claire Garland but some points to consider before buying....
Some of the wool used to make the bears is now discontinued so be prepared to hunt them down on the internet if you want to have bears exactly like the book, also they are quite expensive to buy wool for, for example the first bear Blossom Boo requires 7 colours of Opal...

3.0 out of 5 stars A bit tricky!
I was totally smitten with the book when it arrived. Gorgeous photo's and it was fun that the bears had been given personalities. My two children chose Fudge and Dill and I set about trying to find the right wool. 3 wool shops and several internet sites later and no luck! I had to use similar wool in the end after translating the American weights given into English - very...

Some of the wool used to make the bears is now discontinued so be prepared to hunt them down on the internet if you want to have bears exactly like the book, also they are quite expensive to buy wool for, for example the first bear Blossom Boo requires 7 colours of Opal yarn which at 4 pounds each on ebay without packaging-I said you'd have to forage!-can add up.
However, if you are happy to make them with your yarn stash it is an excellent way of depleting oddments and making room for new stock!

3.0 out of 5 stars A bit tricky!, 29 Sept. 2008
This review is from: Knitted Bears (Hardcover)
I was totally smitten with the book when it arrived. Gorgeous photo's and it was fun that the bears had been given personalities. My two children chose Fudge and Dill and I set about trying to find the right wool. 3 wool shops and several internet sites later and no luck! I had to use similar wool in the end after translating the American weights given into English - very confusing for an intermediate knitter (beginners beware). The pattern for Fudge's head and body was quite tricky but the rest easy peasy. His all in one outfit came out miles too small despite the fact that Fudge himself came out at exactly the right height given. Personally I didn't like the mix of crochet and knitting - I'd have preferred all knitting! The designs are cute but it was a struggle to get the bears looking like the ones in the photographs.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hasn't stopped knitting bears since., 22 Mar. 2009
This review is from: Knitted Bears (Hardcover)
My wife asked me to buy this book for her on Amazon. The book arrived in perfect condition. She was extremely pleased with it and since the book arrived she has not stopped knitting bears. This week she made two as birthday presents for one of our little granddaughters who was extremely pleased with them and took them to bed with her that first evening. When we go on holiday we usually take several of our our soft toys to feature in our holiday snaps. I think photos of buildings and scenery are so much more interesting with little creatures in them. So some of our future holiday snaps will be featuring knitted bears posing in front of famous landmarks or enjoying our picnics with us..

This book is lovely. I am an experienced knitter of many years and it is so nice to pick up a book that is for the more experienced knitter with such beautifully designed patterns. I have knitted a number of these bears for friends and family and they all love them. I absolutely loved knitting the red dungarees that I put on Dill, they looked gorgeous, I found it hard to part with that one.
I think that if I had never knitted before then this book would encourage me to learn. I can't wait for her next publication.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Real Treasure, 12 Aug. 2008

I have just received this gorgeous book! Even if I didn't knit, I'm sure I would love this book. It is beautifully written - every bear has a name and each bear's personality is so charmingly described that you just want to start knitting them immediately. All the bears have cute knitted clothes and shoes in pretty colours. The patterns look reasonably simple to follow and the photographs should be a great help when completing the bears. I love this book!
Also - 10/10 for Amazon's fast delivery.

5.0 out of 5 stars The cutest knitting book ever!, 16 Mar. 2011

This is by far one of the cutest books I have ever used! The bears are adorable and the best part is that the way they are knitted causes their noses to be knitted in. That means that they don't have to shapped afterwords. As for the yarn used, I just use whatever I have available and that tends to work.
