5.0 out of 5 stars a treasured book, 25 Jun 2011
This review is from: Birds (Hardcover)
this book is amazing. the size although to some may seem cumbersome, to me is a definite plus. the illustrations are beautiful and deserve to be seen in a large format such as this. i saw it in a shop a while ago, and to be honest it was a little too expensive for my pocket! but found it here and snapped it up. a book to be treasured for ever. i would definitely recommend this to anyone that is a fan of paintings of birds, nature, or just wants something lovely to look at.

5.0 out of 5 stars Birds on an epic scale!, 31 Oct 2012

This is an enormous tome of a book and needs to be perched on a table. It should take pride of place with the best of your books because of the huge and beautifully produced colour illustrations which are on nearly every page. There are works done by quite a broad spectrum of different artists over several centuries, some old masters, which makes for interesting content and reading. Among the better known naturalists are U. Aldrovandi, C. Gesner, J Audubon, Thomas Bewick, and a sample of Edward Lear's work. Other well known naturalists are mentioned in the book description on the product page. Some are fine art studies, and some scientific diagrams, from different collections and museums. Many have not been printed and generally accessible to the public before, and it is exciting that some of the far eastern works are included. All in all a wonderful book to own, the contents of which are accompanied by excellent and informative text.
