4.0 out of 5 stars Good basic guide, 15 Sep 2010
This review is from: When Someone You Love has Dementia (Overcoming Common Problems) (Paperback)
This book is a good basic guide for anyone who suspects or knows a loved one has dementia. It begins with descriptions of the different forms of dementia then leads the reader through diagnosis, treatment options, how to cope and consideration of residential care. The topics are dealt with in a straightforward manner, with a few case histories, but it doesn't go into very much detail. It would provide a good start for someone who wanted an overview of the subject, but I didn't feel it goes very far in exploring the causes for some behaviours or for solutions. I would suggest it as a book for a carer whose loved one has just been diagnosed, or is going through diagnosis.
