Strange but good Reacher novel
on 27 November 2012
I found this quite unusual for a Jack Reached story. I don't necessarily need violence on every single page, but you expect Jack Reached to hit slightly more than three people in a book, especially when two of them appear in the first chapter. Due to such a lack of set pieces, the plot seems to move very slowly, with little more than conversations occurring until well past the half way mark.
What redeems it then? If you put aside any expectations of an all out blockbusting thriller, this is really quite a good mystery. The villain is cold, calculating and unfathomable, although I unfortunately guessed the identity of the killer a couple of hundred pages before I was meant to. Even so, the how's and the why's remained unanswered until the reveal.
All in all, not my favourite Reacher ever, but still a decent read.
