5.0 out of 5 stars Finally... The Wait is Over., 18 May 2012
By
Martin "Martin IK Kelly" (Basingstoke, Hampshire, UK) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Doctor Who: The Crimson Hand (Paperback)
The Doctor Who Graphic Novels are incredibly well put together and are always good value for money.

Magenta is an interesting character as she starts off a villain but turns hero only to have a darker side revealed later...

as a Comic Swan Song for David Tennant's 10th Doctor, it may lack the emotional Punch of The End of Time, but it makes up for it in fantastic story-telling and epic quality.

cannot wait for Vol: 14: all of the 11th Doctor Adventures up to The Child of Time...

4.0 out of 5 stars The Crimson Hand, 7 Dec 2013

(TOP 100 REVIEWER)
This review is from: Doctor Who: The Crimson Hand (Paperback)
This collection was first published in 2012, and contains stories featuring the Tenth Doctor, as played by David Tennant.

Hotel Historia (DWM 394): Hotel Historia offers paying customers trips to all sorts of historical eras, but the Doctor's not a happy customer.
Space Vikings (Doctor Who Storybook 2010): On the colony world of Lindis, the marauders have come.
Thinktwice (DWM 400-402): "It's Tuesday the glunteenth of Mauve, and another glorious day in the galaxy's most progressive prison!"
The Stockbridge Child (DWM 403-405): "If you want real strangeness come to Stockbridge!"
Mortal Beloved (DWM 406-407): Out on the edge of the Proxima System, the largest storm in the universe rages. So why would anybody build a house there?
The Age of Ice (DWM 408-411): When the Doctor lands in Sydney, Australia UNIT come calling.
The Deep Hereafter (DWM 412): Johnny Seaview, bailiff, freelance peacekeeping agent, small-claims investigator is shot in New Old Detroit. Whoever killed him now wants the Doctor dead too.
Onomatopoeia (DWM 413): zzzzz? Shreeek! Vreee. Klaklaklaklak! Mmmmm ...
Ghosts of the Northern Line (DWM 414-415): A trip on the underground gets more underground than the Doctor expected.
The Crimson Hand (DWM 416-420): Intersol Justice have caught up with the Doctor and Majenta.

In the first of these stories, Hotel Historia, the Doctor meets with an alien woman named Majenta Pryce. All the stories feature her with the Doctor, but there's an over-arching storyline that you don't get to see until the last, long story, and that's where the Crimson Hand comes in.

This is a solid book, over 250 pages, with all the above stories and a commentary at the end. It's all pretty good, but I didn't ever really feel any empathy for Majenta Pryce so the stories were not as good as they could have been if there had been a character involved who I felt more strongly the Doctor would have wanted to help out in this way. I found it a bit hard to buy the initial premise. So very good, just not great overall.
