4.0 out of 5 stars Tennant's Doctor - the final end!
Another good collection of Doctor Who short stories with beautiful illustrations. The comic strip was probably the worst part of the book and it is a shame they have to include them as the pages could be served by having the other stories lengthened.
At Amazon's price, it is well worth the money and I recommend the book as a companion to the Doctor Who 2010 Annual or...

For a slim volume The 2010 Doctor Who Storybook offers a deceptively large amount of material, with eight new short prose stories and one original comic strip.

Admittedly the stories can get a little samey en masse, with various bizarre situations inevitably ending up revealed as the machinations of another race of alien monsters, but the fast pace and varied illustrations help keep the pages turning. Highlights include the return of 'The Unquiet Dead's Gelth in Mark Gatiss' spiritualist expose 'Scared Stiff'; various inanimate objects coming to life in Matt Jones' 'The Shape on the Chair' and typically bonkers fare from Paul Magrs with the Eath under attack from invading alien doors. It's James Moran though who actually manages to imbue his adventure with some emotion, with the time-slip chaos of 'The Haldenmor Fugue' highlighting a tough but necessary choice for the Doctor.

All in all, the 2010 Storybook isn't quite as strong as the best of the previous volumes, but this is still leagues ahead of the official Doctor Who Annual in terms of quality. If you only buy one hardbacked stocking-filler for Xmas, make sure it's the Storybook!

Now, on the inside fly sheets of the front and back covers, is Tennant's Doctor trying to escape from Hartnell's Voords? It certainly looks like them though there is no reference made to them inside the book...shame!

A fitting end to this book series, this storybook has brilliant stories like The Shape On The Chair, Bennelong Point, End Of The Rainbow and The Haldenmour Fugue. The only let downs is the comic strip and Knock Knock, a story about, no joke, TALKING DOORS!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Doctor Doctor tell us a story..., 21 Dec 2010

This annual series of original short Doctor Who stories just gets better each year. Featuring contributions from established writers such as Gary Gillat, it also gives up and coming writers a chance to strut their stuff. The stories are pitched so as to be accessible to older fans as well as children, and personally I can't wait to see what 2011 holds for this smashing series.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great bedtime story book for 5 to 10+ year-olds, 2 Jan 2010
This review is from: Doctor Who Storybook 2010 (Annual) (Hardcover)
The Doctor Who Storybook 2010 is a perfect winter annual packed with 7 stories, a cartoon strip and a letter from The Doctor in form of a transmission, his last before his regeneration. It acts as a great incentive at bedtime for our 6 year old, who looks forward to jumping in to bed ready to hear another adventure from across the galaxy and beyond. The stories capture his attention throughout and are enjoyable for me as the reader too. Each story takes about 30 minutes or less to read...a perfect length for bedtime. There's plenty of opportunity to make up character voices too, with lots of 'ordinary folk' playing key parts. You might need a bright bedside lamp for this storybook as the font size is small and the background colour dark (making it difficult to read for us oldies, but great for packing in a satisfying story length for 5 to 10+ year-olds.

4.0 out of 5 stars Eight Stories about the Tenth Doctor, 25 Nov 2010

This review is from: Doctor Who Storybook 2010 (Annual) (Hardcover)
This is the first Doctor Who Storybook I have bought and read ... and was mildly surprised at both the quality of the writing and artwork. I especially liked the graphic novelesque feel of Space Vikings that had a hint of Simon Bisley's Slaine saga about it. Having worked and written for comics moons ago, I can heartily reccommend this book and probably others like it if they contain the same level of quality. And even if you have to pay full price 8 - that equates to a 1 a story - so excellent VFM all round.

My least favourite quote from the whole book was "The Doctor looked at her blankly" (from The End of the Rainbow). I am sure that the Doctor has never looked blankly in his entire lives and definitely not with the Tenth Doctor's stary eyes.

this is the offocial doctor who storybook annual for 2010 packed full of different stories written by various authours. the good features in this book are the plots and the beautiful illustrations. although, i kind of think the authours got a little carried away with the characters, other than that it is a good hardcover and i will rate it somewhere around 3/5.
