5.0 out of 5 stars the dirty life comes clean, 26 Oct 2012

Love Words (Encinitas, CA USA) - See all my reviews
Kristin Kimball abandoned vegetarianism, restaurant meals, frequent travel, the NYC urban life for a unique, dedicated, centered man with a dream. Together, they combined their hard work ethic, their skills, their passion to create a large, challenging, wonderful organic farm. This book concentrates on the progress of their first year through the seasons. Their story is so engaging and informative, I could hardly put it down. I learned a great deal about farming, food production, and commitment. Proposition 37, on the California ballot, is a measure to require labeling on genetically engineered food. This issue will only become more prominent. The Dirty Life promotes clean, productive living and clean, delicious food. I read the hardbook edition, subtitled: on farming, food, and love.

4.0 out of 5 stars Dirty life? A better life!, 26 Sep 2012

This review is from: The Dirty Life: A Story of Farming the Land and Falling in Love (Paperback)
A warm an enthusiastic story about a life change from the Big City to rural New York. A change from being a vegetarian to a biological meat eater. The respect for life and growing erupts from all the pages. Nice book. A must for every high scholar in order to learn that food is grown on farms and not in factories, at least the good food.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic true story, 24 Jun 2012
This review is from: The Dirty Life: A Story of Farming the Land and Falling in Love (Paperback)
We like to think of ourselves as enjoying the 'Good life' growing veg and keeping chicks, and yearn for a smallholding one day, so The Dirty Life was a fantastic insight into farming, albeit on a bit American scale. I came away with great admiration for Kristin who completely changed her way of life, and writes with a great easy to read style. The book follows the ups and downs of the farming year. I'm now enjoying following their story on their website through their blog.

Actually enjoyed this more than I expected to - it was a recommendation from a friend and I immediately passed it on to somebody else as soon as I finished it. Great reading and changed my views on life down on the farm!
