In all probability almost every child would like to have a dog. Perhaps some young ones know exactly the kind of dog they want - perhaps a Cocker Spaniel, an ever popular Lab, or a German Shepherd. The little girl imagined by Emma Dodd knows she wants a dog, and she certainly knows what kind of dog she does not want.

The kind of pet she does not want is described in lilting rhymes that young readers will enjoy. Such as,

"I don't want a posh dog,
A blow-dry-when-washed dog..."

Obviously she doesn't want a dog that needs a great deal of grooming, and she doesn't want a grumpy dog.

"I don't want a snappy dog.
A growly, never-happy dog."

Youngsters will enjoy discovering just exactly what kind of pet she does want, and may well relate to her choice. The author's bold full-page illustrations serve to tell the story well, easily bringing the rhymes to life.

This is a beautifully illustrated book about a charming little girl who has very clear ideas on what type of dog she might like to have as a friend/pet It's the perfect buy for that special child in your life, even more so if they are dog lovers. The illustations are full of humour and wit and the story includes wonderful descriptions that every child will enjoy.

We love Emma Dodd's books in our household, and have shared our enjoyment by giving them as gifts to so many friends. Her words and illustrations capture the imagination of people small and big. You can't help but smile when you read them. You can hear the little girl's voice in this story, declaring what she does and doesn't want. And, as with I Don't Want a Cool Cat, I'm certain that dog lovers would be charmed by this story, too.
