5.0 out of 5 stars Soldiers of the Seven Years War in Canada
A readable book with the right amount of detail for those with a general interest in the 7 Year War Campaigns in North America. Book covers the areas of origin, recruitment, equipment, deployment and use of these troops at a palatabale manner without getting bogged down in too much minutiae. One of the better entry level books on the topic.

I have bought this type of format of book before, gives a general overview rather than an indepth blow by blow account.
apart from being a very slim volume compared to similar books ,i would not say it was value for money .
I was looking to know a little more on the subject of the French Indian wars, and thought it would be a good start point, and also wanted to...

4.0 out of 5 stars Highlander in the French-Indian Wars, 7 May 2010
This review is from: Warrior 126: Highlander in the French-Indian War: 1756-67 (Warrior) (Paperback)
This book was a very satisfying read. The author has a natural affinity to the subject, being from a military background and a Canadian of Scottish origin. The account of the highland servicemen's lifestyle and challenges is enlivened by extracts from personal accounts in what seems to be a quite well documented period of history. We see how the highlanders brought many of their old traditions over to bind them together in a strange and perilous new land, managing to preserve their distinct identity, within the format of the regimental system.
The illustrations are of a very high standard too.

Another superb reference source. As a Scot I was interested in my countrymen's contribution to this campaign but had little previous knowledge of it. The art work is, as usual, both accurate and visually pleasing. The text and sources gave me guidelines to follow to learn more, and I have found this invaluable. Well worth the money, another King George's army masterwork.

I have bought this type of format of book before, gives a general overview rather than an indepth blow by blow account.
apart from being a very slim volume compared to similar books ,i would not say it was value for money .
I was looking to know a little more on the subject of the French Indian wars, and thought it would be a good start point, and also wanted to know more on the subject that Scottish regiments played in this theater of war at the time.
The content of this subject was a bit disappointing as well ,it was very patchy and had the feel of being put together with bits and peices of info that the author found here there and everywhere and did not connect very well, jumping from subject to subject with sometimes a few lines as an explanation.bulked out with images that did not seem to connect.
My main gripe was that they were no maps and battles were skipped over or mentioned in the passing ,The impotant battle of Bushy Run seemed to be an after though at the very end of the book.
I would recommend that readers seek better written, informative and value for money books ,than pay for for this cobbled together effort

If the book Raid Series "Tomahawk and Musket" is an exquisite book, this does not detract at all, invluso say which is superior in taste and quality beautifully illustrated with prints and paintings of high quality, accurate and detailed text. If the book mentioned above should not go unnoticed, this is a must in our library.
