Research in recent years has destroyed a lot of myths to do whith the Great War,none more so than the loss of the British Battlecruisers during the battle of Jutland,Mr Burr has written a book full of information, never difficult to read, its advantage over longer books is that it can be read in one sitting and Mr Burr covers all of the important points in the limited space...

2.0 out of 5 stars Rather a little for a lot
Scimpy, small book which does not represent value for money. Covers what it says it does but not in any great detail.

Research in recent years has destroyed a lot of myths to do whith the Great War,none more so than the loss of the British Battlecruisers during the battle of Jutland,Mr Burr has written a book full of information, never difficult to read, its advantage over longer books is that it can be read in one sitting and Mr Burr covers all of the important points in the limited space available.A Royal Navy cover up backfired badly, page 40 covers the review carried out by Rear Admiral tudor, susequently suppressed, the account by Warrant officer Grant is even more damming, information covered by this book backed up by dives on the wrecks has rendered a number of books and dvd obsolescent. One small niggle page 33 states, Hipper left Blucher to her fate and escaped-- it would be fair to say,Admiral Hipper took advantage of one massive RN foul up and managed to disengage, the Blucher being beyond help. One for osprey to be proud of and Mr Burr is a fine historian, first class artwork and selection of photographs,up to date research such as this is a must for all interested in the Royal Navy and world war one as fought at sea, this book is value for money.

5.0 out of 5 stars A good review on British battlecruisers, 4 Jun 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: British Battlecruisers 1914-1918 (New Vanguard) (Paperback)
This is one of the few books I have read that doesn't regurgitate the normal myth about RN battlecruisers blowing up at Jutland due to inadequate armour.
The book even has a section based on recent surveys of the wrecks to show the reasons behind how ships actually died.
Its a fairly short book but it gives a good introduction to British battlecruisers and is well researched and written.
I will say that I am not totally convinced by the theory of the Queen Mary's destruction but at the same time I doubt that it is too far from the truth.
