This review is from: Charles Buchan: A Lifetime in Football (Hardcover)
This man was the best footballer of his day, but he did so much more; war hero, journalist, school teacher, publisher, etc. His life started in Victorian England but towards its end he had dealings with the nascient pop industry.
He was a very modest man, so many of his triumphs are glossed over in this book e.g he won the military medal twice but this is not mentioned in the book. What shines out in the book is Buchan's decency and sense of fair play, traits that are absent from not only football but life in general in the modern world. He sought to find the best in everyone he dealt with. He would not say a bad word about anyone. His attitudes to some topics e.g racism are dedades ahead of his time.
Well recomended for anyone interested in football history or for anyone interested in 20th century social history.
