This review is from: St Andrews Links: Six Centuries of Golf (Hardcover)
This book is not a history of St. Andrews Links but more of an account of the development of the 7 courses from 1764 when the 22 hole coures was reduced to 18 as it is at present.
St.Andrews is accepted as the home of golf but vit developed slowly with a stormy history requiring 7 Acts and an Agreement over the period 1894-1974 before its future was finally secured.
The courses have seen many visitors and they have been recorded in the chapters dealing with the 7 courses.
There are excellent sections on caddies, winners of the Open, junior golf and centenaries.
The chronology of golf at St.Andrews from 1457-2008 is fascinating.

5.0 out of 5 stars The home of golf has never been so appealing, 20 Nov. 2011
This review is from: St Andrews Links: Six Centuries of Golf (Hardcover)
If you love your golf then you must read this book. Although there are other centres for the early golf history of Scotland none rivals St Andrews, and this is the definitive account of the development of golf there. It's a great read and hugely informative.
