This review is from: After They Killed Our Father: A Refugee from the Killing Fields Reunites with the Sister She Left Behind: A Daughter from the Killing Fields Reunites with the Sister She Left Behind (Hardcover)
After having read the first book by this author, I was intrigued to find out how her life developed after the trauma of life under the khmer Rouge.
This is a well written book that follows Loungs life in America and udates what is happening with the surviving family members. There is a good insight to the strength of the family and its strong bond created through the way that people of Cambodia/china and even Japan have such a respectful family unit (this bond does not happem here in the Uk, and i doubt that its is ever tis strong except in Asia)
We learn that life in Cambodia is still not easy, with landmines and frequent raids by remaining Khmer Rouge infantry, little, if any access to educatin, no electricity etc.
We also learn of her brother Kims role in the military, and its continuing fight against Phol Pots regime.

Loungs strength of character and her tenacious spirit help her in her will to survive in America through reenage angst and misunderstanding (some of which is very funny)
A great read and highly recommended
