4.0 out of 5 stars A book to savour
An interesting, informative and entertaining book that is perhaps very slightly spoilt by some minor proof reading faults and by one (possibly two) poor picture/s.

The picture in question (bottom of p34) appears have been printed from a scanned version of the original and hence seems to be showing signs of 'pixellation'. The proof reading faults are: Fritz...

As a devotee of this era of racing I was a little disappointed. Descriptions of the technical aspects of the era are admittedly hard to find and the book is weak on those details. As a record of races won and lost it has some value but it doesn't really capture the magic, the variety, the plain mad technological developments in the '60s, the like of which we shall never...

4.0 out of 5 stars A book to savour, 7 July 2014
This review is from: Motorcycle GP Racing in the 1960s (Hardcover)
An interesting, informative and entertaining book that is perhaps very slightly spoilt by some minor proof reading faults and by one (possibly two) poor picture/s.

The picture in question (bottom of p34) appears have been printed from a scanned version of the original and hence seems to be showing signs of 'pixellation'. The proof reading faults are: Fritz Scheidegger's name spelt as 'Schiedegger' on p54 (elsewhere his surname seems to be correctly spelt) and on p107 the captions for the two photographs (of Rod Gould on a TD2 Yamaha and Bohumil Stasa leading Milani et al in the 1969 German GP) are the wrong way round. There may be other minor 'typos' that I have not yet discovered. One hopes that any future Veloce reprint will address these problems.

But on no account let these criticisms put you off purchasing this book! It is full of useful information, numerous nostalgic photos, and is a lovely reminder of what the author justifiably considers the best era in post-WWII motorcycle racing - the 'Glorious Sixties'.

Very good informative book about the time when British bikes were not quite competitive and the Japanese / European bikes were getting faster.
The names of the riders brings memories back from that changing period.

4.0 out of 5 stars content of book, 11 May 2014

Found content of book short on results detail and could have had more coverage of continental circus racing in 60s

Nice hardback for lovers of the golden era of the 1960s racing period. Lots of fine black and white action shots of the bikes and stars of this special period plus an extensive section of race results etc. Remember the Read /Ivy days and Agostini vs Hailwood battles. If you enjoy bikes and riders minus the hype and the stickers of todays scene sit back and enjoy this book.
