3.0 out of 5 stars Content very interesting though rather let down by mistakes and poor proof reading, 24 Aug 2013

This review is from: Foul Deeds and Suspicious Deaths in Lewisham and Deptford (Foul Deeds & Suspicious Deaths) (Paperback)
This is the second book of the author that I've reviewed. There's no denying the subject matter is very absorbing and there are precious few books covering murder in specific London areas or specific dates, which is the good thing about his books.

The cases are interesting and detailed. In my opinion there is a bit too much subjection and opinion in some of the cases, but the most frustrating thing is that he writes so incoherently in describing some of the cases. Names in the period are often similar - Ann, Mary, Elizabeth - and sometimes are mixed up, or names are brought in which he's clearly forgotten to mention at the beginning of the scene setting, and has not realised this. At first I thought it was me, but re-reading over and over to try and understand what he means has definately revealed some errors. If these were corrected it would be a very good book.

It's still readable however - especially if you know the area.
