Q. How many Jazz fans does it take to screw in a lightbulb? A. Hey man who cares, Charlie Parker would have done it better.

British Jazz was ever in thrall to the US version or at least so it seemed to those on the outside. Happily this book takes you inside that fairly tight club of musicians. All of a sudden connections start to become clear and around 1965 names start to crop up that dot across Jazz and Rock worlds for decades to come. Books about this slice of time and place in Jazz are not ten a penny and this volume is most welcome. As an avid fan of Elton Dean, it is nice to see how all those names I saw crop up in Soft Machine, Nucleus, Cream, Colosseum, King Crimson, Keef Hartley Band etc fit into the great scheme of things.

One word of warning , reading this book will put a serious dent in your CD budget. Nice hardback edition, by the way.

I commend this book to the House.
