4.0 out of 5 stars Worth every penny.
This is a very useful recipe book which is mainly very easy to follow and not too complicated even for chefs new to Indian cuisine.

This is a very useful recipe book which is mainly very easy to follow and not too complicated even for chefs new to Indian cuisine.

Some of the dishes call for Pataks ready made pastes but not all:if you have the basic jars of Madras,Balti,Tikka or Korma for example you can always substitute one for another and end up with an authentic tasting curry or snack.

Fortunately I can buy many of Pataks pastes from Amazon.uk at reasonable prices, particularily when buying a 6-Pack.They are terrific value especially using Amazons Add On offers which saves on postage charges.

This is a good way of learning how to cook Indian food both spicy and sweet--there is an excellent section on puddings and desserts by Meena Pathak, and I'm sure abley assisted by daughter Anjali.

Well worth the investment with prices starting at 1 penny for this book as I write.I would have given the book 5 stars, but it is a bit lightweight at 125 pages.

5.0 out of 5 stars Indian meal, 9 May 2010

I bought this book for my wife after borrowing a copy from the local library. She prepared an 'Indian night' meal for 12 using the recipes provided and all agreed that the dishes were even better than restaurant meals - the recipes are easy to follow and using fresh ingredients makes all the difference.

Fine but would like an update with more of the recipes now on the internet site for Pataks recipes. I want recipes that I can use with each pot of sauce/paste we buy printed in book form. Using the iPad whilst cooking can be a nuisance. A book is easier. Hence four stars instead of five.

1.0 out of 5 stars By far the worst Indian cookery book I have ever had the misfortune to come across!, 16 Aug. 2010
This review is from: Meena Pathak Celebrates Indian Cooking: 100 Delicious Recipes, 50 Years of Patak's (Hardcover)
Did the title sound a bit harsh? Well I meant every word of it! To describe this book as a celebration of Indian cooking is a joke. I bought this book on the strength of the Pathak name. However, what Anjali Pathak (daughter-in-law of the original (late) Mr and Mrs Pathak has produced here is at best a collection of 'fusion' recipes, though to be honest even that description does a disservice to genuinely innovative chefs that have pioneered true fusion food of various types over the last 20 years. Adding a bit of chilli and or a few spices to a recipe does not make it Indian! The inside cover says that 'This book is about celebrating traditions while reflecting the changes in Indian cuisine', well may be the later half of the sentence should have been emphasised and put on the front cover as there is very little 'tradition' in this book (exactly how traditional is beef in Indian cooking? and let's not forget the classic Indian desserts Crème brulee and Chocolate pudding! Calling this book something like 'Modern' or 'Fusion Indian cooking' or 'Spice up your English' would at least give the buyer a clue as to what to expect. As it is, the title is very misleading - do not expect to find much in the way of authentic Indian recipes - a 1970's Vesta curry would probably count as more 'classic'!!!
