Ian Hodgson doesn't seemed to have worked out who he is writing this book for. Is he writing for an experienced monkey? 'Hanging baskets must be fixed securely or may be dangerous.' 'when ordering from mail order remove all packaging.' or a very experienced gardener as he often makes reference to putting your plants out the greenhouse. I'm sure he would answer for everyone - but that is just why this book doesn't work. At one stage there are lists of descriptions of flowers with no photos so, unless you are an experienced gardener what good is a description of, for example, Sanvitalia procumbens? followed by a description of the flowers and then the info that it is 'best in sun or semishade' - yes - maybe but if I can't see the plant then i don't know what you're talking about Ian and if I know what plant you mean then surely I don't need the description? So the book simply needs more (many more) pictures of each of the plants and for the author to decide who he is writing for. Also I'm not really sure how he feels about his readers... 'shade loving plants should be grown in shade, not in fully sun, and sun-lovers in sun, not shade.' So basically sir, and RHS, please decide who you are writing for. We maybe human beings reading this. And also please decide whether this if for the experienced gardener with a huge garden and also a few containers.. or whether (and surely today this is more likely) this is for gardeners using exclusively pots. Could do better. :-)Ian Hodgson doesn't seemed to have worked out who he is writing this book for. Is he writing for an experienced monkey?
