5.0 out of 5 stars Cardiff City a passion, 13 Oct 2013
This review is from: From the Ashes - The Real Story of Cardiff City Football Club (Paperback)
Just finished reading this and have to say i thoroughly enjoyed it. I like the way that Christian manages to express his own view on most of the stories. Not just the normal facts and figures which most fans know anyway. The book continues up till the end of last season and encloses some interesting photos. Not too expensive which is not always the case. A really good addition to my collection. I would recommend it to any Cardiff City Fan and football fans in general.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must have for die hard Cardiff City fans, 12 Oct 2013
This review is from: From the Ashes - The Real Story of Cardiff City Football Club (Paperback)
I have to admit that when a copy of 'From The Ashes - The Real Story of Cardiff City Football Club' by Christian Saunders, landed on my doorstep a few weeks ago, I was a little underwhelmed. I should add that my initial reaction had little to do with the quality of the writing, more to do with the subject matter.

Like a number of other long standing Cardiff City supporters, I am currently boycotting the club due to the bizarre and frankly, pretty outrageous decision by controlling shareholder, Vincent Tan to rebrand the club sixteen months ago.

Therefore, reading and reviewing a whole book about Cardiff City would not, in all honesty, have been top of my priority list!

That said, author Christian Saunders carefully researched and well written book is a great read, either as a reference point to out-geek your City supporting mates or a cover to cover page turner. The book provides a written account of the Cardiff
City 'story' from the embryonic Riverside AFC days right through to last seasons promotion. The author quite rightly provides 'colour' to some of the more interesting stories that crop up during the season, rather than just concentrating solely on the more mundane match to match analysis.

It's subjective but i do like stats and you won't find any in this book but to be fair, Christian sets out to tell the story of the club rather than to provide statistical analysis. If you want stats that need is catered for elsewhere, anyway.

The book contains a reasonable selection of pics and it would, perhaps, have been nice to see a few more, and I still find the pictures of the players in the 'wrong colour' last season, a bit of a tough one to swallow...

Once again, it's subjective but I also felt that the seismic events of June 2012 that saw a significant chunk of the club's identity casually discarded were worthy of a few more pages...

On the whole though, Christian Saunders excellent book should be a welcome addition to the bookcase of any bluebird with an interest in the entertaining and always quirky history of Cardiff City.
