4.0 out of 5 stars Good selection of walks with variety.
Gower needs little recommendation to those who know it, but this selection of walks will broaden most people's horizons to appreciate the amazing variety of landscape on offer in such a small area. The walks are short - from 3 to 7 miles - and in the nature of the landscape, none is all that strenuous, though the cliff paths described can involve a lot of ascent and...

I bought this to try and get some ideas for a few days of walking with some friends, but after spending about an hour with the book when it first arrived I've not given it a second look. The walks are very short, the longest being about 7 miles, and most being much shorter. If you're looking for some ideas for short walks with the family then I'm sure this book will serve you well, but it's certainly not going to provide walks to keep most people busy for more than a couple of hours at a time.

Gower needs little recommendation to those who know it, but this selection of walks will broaden most people's horizons to appreciate the amazing variety of landscape on offer in such a small area. The walks are short - from 3 to 7 miles - and in the nature of the landscape, none is all that strenuous, though the cliff paths described can involve a lot of ascent and descent. The north coast of Gower is often neglected by visitors, and the walks here give a different perspective and a slightly wilder feel.
Descriptions are fairly brief, but easy to follow, and the geographical or historical details (points of interest after each walk) are pretty sketchy, but this is essentially a pocket book, and is easily light enough to carry with you. Recommended to take the Explorer OS map along too.
If you're looking for a walk including the fabulous Three Cliffs Bay, or a detailed description of the stunning Worms Head, they are not in this book.

Useful for ideas of short circular walks if you aren't very good at coming up with them yourself, though do not leave without your OS map, we did on day 1 and got horribly lost trying to follow descriptions alone! Many of the descriptions were out of date with e.g. stiles/gates replaced/missing. Liked the info re points of interest. Be aware too, car parking charges significantly increased from the amounts in the book!

1.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Walks, 21 April 2003
Together with my wife and two children (13 & 10) we have walked most of these walks. The descriptions are good - although you must take an Ordnance Survey map (Landranger 159 / Explorer 10)- as Nick Jenkins recommends. The sketches in the book are helpful, but use a map as well. The views along the cliff walks are nothing less than spectacular (you need a head for heights for some of them) and the inland walks cover some of the most tranquill places we've ever been. 10 out of 10!
