This review is from: A Modern Introduction to Theology: New Questions for Old Beliefs (Paperback)
In an age when many religious folk are creating a new Christianity devoid of allegory, imagination, love and common sense, replaced instead by doctrinal fantasy, fundamentalism, judgmentalism and a distortion of historical belief; it is joy to read this book. A straightforward, clearly written critique of the much publicised fundamentalist mumbo-jumbo, pulling together the best of current biblical analysis and reconciling it intelligently with scientific knowledge.

The author presents a Christianity which is authentic and intelligent. Kennedy's is not the Christianity preferred by fundamentalists such as Dawkins and Bush.

5.0 out of 5 stars Just what was needed, 2 Aug 2009
This review is from: A Modern Introduction to Theology: New Questions for Old Beliefs (Paperback)
I'm sorry I didn't see this book closer to its publication date because I would have loved to offer it my support back then. Like the previous reviewer I think it is just what was needed, but as well as dealing with the comments of those who regard theology as a waste of time, I also think it is just what theology students young and old need to remind us of how serious and exciting theology has been down through the ages and can still be today. Yes, theology is exciting! Well done Philip Kennedy!

5.0 out of 5 stars A searching review of Christianity, 16 Mar 2011

This review is from: A Modern Introduction to Theology: New Questions for Old Beliefs (Paperback)
This is a stimulating and thought provoking book and Kennedy clearly sets out some of the many challenges to Christianity. It is as much a hard-hitting critique of Christian theology as an introduction, and some mention of the positive attributes of Christianity would have made the book more balanced. A Modern Introduction to Theology may not find favour with some, nor help Kennedy's friends with their doubts, but by explaining and stating the issues so clearly he offers a challenge to others to provide answers with similar clarity.
