Every picture tells a story!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Tell Me a Picture (Paperback)
Quentin Blake and the National Gallery have combined to inspire children to read art works in an innovative way, which encourages children to look at pictures and tell stories. As a primary school teacher and art co-ordinator, this book has provided exciting stimulus in literacy hour, extended writing and art. It excites the children and makes them look at pictures in a different way, using their own imaginations to create a rich tapestry of words and ideas; and as they become familiar with the different works they want to learn more about the artists. Truly inspirational!

Quentin Blake did it again,
This review is from: Tell Me a Picture (Paperback)
As a follower of Quentin Blake as a illustrator and author (I believe that Clown is a moving and funny story in images) I bought this book as a tool to teach my kids in a funny way how to appreciate fine art. The story is simple and even for someone whose mother language is not english, easy to follow. The art selected is also, at least for me not very well known, but an excellent selection, from different styles and periods. Very interesting as a teaching tool.

Child's book of children's and classic art,
By A Customer
This review is from: Tell Me a Picture (Paperback)
Excellent book to expose children to pictures they may have seen in picture books they own, and to paintings from the National Gallery. One picture for each letter from A to Z. Running dialogue of speculative questions to engage the child in the action and meaning of each picture/painting.

This book is brilliant it makes the reader really notice things they may have missed and good for sparking off questions. Liked the information in the back of the book about each artist and the painting. 10 year old son very interested in this book - one you can come back to time and time again.

I chose this as a present for a child who has struggled with reading & writing but who loves to draw & paint & likes pictures. It's an unusual approach. Quentin Blake is a favourite in our family, & his additional characters are a lively way of drawing the reader deeper in to the picture - not exactly prompting, but an effective starter for all sorts of comments.

Enormous fun and educational, too,
This review is from: Tell Me a Picture (Paperback)
This is a truly fabulous book. I was introduced to it by my French teacher (live in France, desperately trying to learn the language)and instantly recognised its value as an imagination stretcher for youngsters. My grandson was entranced. I have recommended it to all my friends who have grandchildren and they, too, have bought it. I deserve commission, but won't press the point, as the book has brought enormous pleasure to at least 8 youngsters and their parents and grandparents. Buy it. It is wonderful!

This book combines the delightful illustrations of Quentin Blake with famous artists pictures. Blake is the "teacher" encouraging the kids to look at the images. Beautifully produced.
