After hearing Bernard Cribbins read this on Cbeebies, thought I'd have a look. It's beautifully illustrated and a lovely way to teach kids about being kind.

Present for daughter - aged 40 - to read at nursery. We both loved it. The illustrations are second to none. I would like one myself (grey haired 71 year old)!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars My Favourite Winters Tale., 4 Nov 2011
This review is from: One Winter's Night (Paperback)
I tell stories and read books to children for a living, day in day out. I love the traditional stories, but am also always looking for new material.
I bought this book today and sat and read it whilst waiting on a school pick up. The story is beautiful in every way, its illustrations are truly stunning, and its simple moving tale made me cry.
I will use this story again and again, it will appeal to all ages. A real keeper.

5.0 out of 5 stars EXQUISITE ILLUSTRATIONS!, 9 Mar 2014

This review is from: One Winter's Night (Paperback)
Quite a number of books by Little Tiger Press are illustrated by Simon Mendez. His animal paintings are second to none. Each individual hair on every animal seems to have been painted on individually thereby giving such an illusion of reality and softness, that children AND adults become lost in the scenes through their love of the animals. It is a large book, and most of the illustrations spread over two pages which adds to the enjoyment - including some really large close ups. This particular story dwells on the love and compassion between the animals, especially towards kind, gentle badger who arrives in the forest cold and hungry. Perhaps a book we should send to some of our politicians!
