4.0 out of 5 stars Joshua, 9 July 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Joshua: An Introduction and Survey (Tyndale Old Testament Commentaries) (Paperback)
Good book, quite technical in places but a worthwhile purchase none the less. The Author has a good grasp of other writers on the subject

5.0 out of 5 stars Used - but like new, 8 Jun 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Joshua: An Introduction and Survey (Tyndale Old Testament Commentaries) (Paperback)
I ordered this book as one which had been used before - but when it arrived (very promptly!)it looked as though it was in perfect condition. The commentary is considered to be one of the finest on Joshua, with Richard Hess being one of the prominent Old Testament theologians in the USA. As I have only recently received this boook, I have only dipped into it - but it seems exactly what I was looking for.

4.0 out of 5 stars Relevant and readable., 4 July 2014
This review is from: Joshua: An Introduction and Survey (Tyndale Old Testament Commentaries) (Paperback)
As is usual with Tyndale commentaries this has a verse by verse exegesis of the text (a fancy way of saying what it means) and it is also very useful are many technical issues to do with language. It is packed full of useful information and Hess's insights are well worth considering when preparing talks or Bible studies. I used this alongside other commentaries on Joshua when I was preaching the book a couple years ago and certainly found it to be one of the most helpful ones. The Tyndale commentary series has not been one of my favourites but as their commentaries go this is certainly one of the best ones that I've used. Certainly it is very reasonably priced and also very readable.
