5.0 out of 5 stars Tender, biting, baffling, 8 Sep 2006
This review is from: Sawn-Off Tales (Salt Modern Fiction) (Hardcover)
Tender, biting, sometimes baffling, Gaffney's precision-engineered slivers of fiction slip inside you like a bouncy song off a bad advert. But they're neither bad nor bouncy (although one of them is about a man who spends his redundancy money on a bouncy castle) They're short. Very short. 150 words he says, and I'm sure he's counted. When Id read them I felt like I'd run an emotional marathon when I'd just sprinted to the bus stop. And in many ways, these stories are about bus stops - the random peeps you spy there, tiny Tardis people with cathedrals inside them, creeping by unnoticed. Gaffney makes a perfect world in miniature - like those hobby craft fellahs who carve the entire bible onto a walnut shell. Go and get a copy now!
