5.0 out of 5 stars The best biog on Pete Doherty, 1 Nov 2005
I'm a big fan of Pete Doherty, the Libertines and Babyshambles and I was expecting to be disappointed with this book, but I wasnt. I expected it to be like the tabloids, sensationalizing Pete's drug use and ignoring his talents, but it's not like that. It doesn't treat the reader like he/she's stupid and it doesnt shy away from talking about deeper things like Pete's infleunces in music and poetry and what Pete really thinks. It describes Pete from a distance but also has plenty of his own words and a personal account of a typically crazy night out with him. The authors don't make out they're part of "the in crowd" but they obviously know him well, they just don't need to spell it out.
It starts off when Pete's a kid, describes how he got into music through writing poems and listening to the Smiths then formed the Libertines when he met Carl Barat, and it ends up to date with Babyshambles and Kate Moss. Along the way are some pretty cool accounts of getting signed, tours, fights, rehab, guerrilla gigs, jail...
I've only met Pete a couple of times but after reading this book you really feel like you know him and his music. Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Pete Doherty - The Dirt, 23 Feb 2006
By
Daisy (Emerald Isle) - See all my reviews
This is a book for anyone who wants to read the downright dirty story of Pete Doherty. Many books have been written about his music and his rise to fame but this one focuses mainly on his drug abuse & his sex life - with many revelations from ex-girlfriends! At times, it can feel a bit tabloid-ish - but it is co-written by a journalist from The Mirror! However considering Pete sells the majority of his stories himself to this newspaper, the majority of this book could be "from the horses mouth". I couldn't put this book down because i was so anxious to here what exploits he would get up to next!
