5.0 out of 5 stars The second Dalek Invasion of Earth. Part two.

Not one of McGann's best. A weak story that fails to deliver, despite the ending. what happens just doesn't deliver a powerful enough punch. The actress who plays Lucy Miller grates terribly, which is partly due to the poor characterisation and scripts.

The final part in the fourth season of Doctor Who audio adventures that feature Paul McGann as the Doctor and Sheridan Smith as his companion Lucie Miller.

This is the second in a two part story, following right on from the cliffhanger ending to Lucie Miller (Doctor Who: The New Eighth Doctor Adventures).

And it's the culmination of four years worth of stories and story arcs so it's not a good jumping point and only for those who have followed this range all the way through.

It runs for a little under sixty minutes and is one long episode with no breaks in the middle.

So what can we say without spoilers?

The first third takes place almost all in one location. And yet it's amazing listening, with some superb character drama and acting.

It does tie in with another story featuring another Doctor from the main range of audios but there is enough exposition for those who haven't heard that one to get into this.

The Daleks have often been figures of fun in many media but in this story it takes them and remembers just how nasty and evil they are. Because they do things you won't forget in a hurry.

There are some very powerful emotional moments so you might just get something in your eye at points.

There's some epic moments of action.

And some very dark moments.

Although these audios can't tie into new Doctor series continuity you can come away with the feeling that the ninth doctor had reasons for hating the Daleks that don't involve the time war.

And the whole thing is self contained, but it does leave one tantalising loose end also. Which promises that when the Eighth Doctor returns to audio, things may never be the same.

There are twenty minutes of interviews with cast and crew at the end of the disc and they a highly recommended listen.

An unforgettable end to this run of audios. The Eighth Doctor will return, though. And I look forward to it.

Brilliant! That's about it really!

Oh, okay, I'll write some more - this has all the elements of a great Doctor Who story. Old enemies (more than one lot), old acquaintances, family, Earth in danger, bombs, death and destruction. And classic Doctor Who moral dilemmas, regrets, recriminations and soul searching. Without giving too much away, all I can say is that anyone who loves Doctor Who classic stories, and adventures, will NOT be disappointed by this.

And I absolutely love the ending - listen closely to the last words prior to the end theme.

If you haven't got this, and are thinking of getting it, make sure you get the audio story Lucie Miller and listen to that first. Absolutely must hear that one first.

Totally recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars As good as it gets!, 21 Jan. 2013

Wow - If only the TV series was this good. Paul McGann is a great Doctor and Sheridan Smith is 'bleeding amazing' (as her character might say) as Lucy Miller. Had more power, goose-bump moments, and jaw-dropping scenes than anything I've ever come across in the media output of Doctor Who.

I chose the 5 star rating because it is justly deserved. Ypou MUST listen to the 1st part of the story "Lucie MIller" before going on to this one. I won't spoit it by giving away anything of the plot or storyline other tan to say this is probably the only storyline which really paints the Daleks as pure evil. You will need tissues!

Very dark & disturbing and memorable but the story isn't very cohesive & seems to leave a few questions open like - why did he do that? & Why didn't she do this?? Etc. Shame it's the last one in the series though (for now!)
