This third in Big Finish's four-part series looking at Davros early life covers some of the most iconic moments in the character's backstory, with the development of the extermination gun, the first Kaled mutants being deliberately birthed to develop the Dalek species, and the bomb that turn Davros into a crippled monstrosity. It's all good solid stuff, but the only real downside is that much of the material in this play has been covered before in Lance Parkin's earlier audio drama 'Davros'. Parkin does well to expand scenes and show them from a different angle to make this more than a direct re-tread, but sadly the play is lacking the ambiguous emotional relationship between Davros and his assistant Shan of the earlier play, opting instead to focus more on political maneuvering, with the result that not only do events seem rather familiar to previous listeners but they lack the emotional punch of the earlier play. This is still a good solid enjoyable listen for those who have heard the earlier instalments in the 'I, Davros' series, but ultimately this stands as an inferior re-run of one of the audio series greatest stories.

Review.
Now no longer a man in the military Davros is a member of the scientific elite who are pushing the boundarys of there Kaled experimentations on creating a genetic weapon.

Davros is now a power crazed scientist boardering megalomania is able to get his hands on some Thal DNA were he unlocks a new field of research in the process becoming further & further obsessive by the genetic mutations.

Members of the scientific elite of the Kaled race start to fear Davros & the insane lengths he has taken in his crazed experiments as Davros now believes the key lies in the genetic acceleration of the Thal race resulting in mutating the DNA to become resistant to a Nuclear fallout via a outer casing protective shell in his thirst for gaining ultimate power.

Female assistant Shan who is assisting Davros in his genetic experiments offers a glimmer of hope within the man as he showcases some sort of affection towards her but it comes to little to late as Davros deals with the political turn of events around him & is also betrayed.

There are also new event's that are about to take a more sinister turn on the scientist as a bomb explosion will change Davros life forever.

This is the story were Davros becomes crippled by the bomb explosion transforming him physically & mentally he becomes totally insane consumed by vengeance on the Thal race & the political leader's of the Kaled race.

Lance Parkin who wrote the superb "Davros" writes this third part in this mini series bringing certain plot elements that were touched upon in that story to the fold here.

This is a excellent third part that even showcases Davros is caperble of some sort of affection towards his assistant Shan, But as events then take a sinister turn we see the rebirth of the Davros character void of any affection becoming consumed by pure evil.

This is a story unsuitable for young children as I've stated Big Finish intended this mini series for a more mature older audience as event's that are written about here if it were a tv mini series would no doubt be shown after 9pm watershed.

A highly recommended audio release for the more mature Doctor Who, Davros & Dalek fan's.

4.0 out of 5 stars Dark Transitions, 22 Oct 2012

Mr. James Smith (Stafford, UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This review is from: I, Davros 3 - Corruption (Doctor Who S.) (Audio CD)
Now in the Science Elite, Davros is well-placed to begin exerting some serious control over the Kaled Government. Right from the start we're dropped (like the Thal assault team), straight into the middle of the action. Nuclear and neutronic (neutron bomb?) shells are starting to be used in larger numbers as desperation to break the deadlock grows. An audacious but doomed Thal raid on the Kaled High Command gives Davros his first sample of Thal DNA to examine - with surprising results. The environment continues to degrade as the internecine plotting and in-fighting within the Kaled ruling elite threatens to spiral out of control. Davros' growing relationship with Shan offers a glimmer of hope - but one that is really too little too late.

Davros is increasingly convinced that the mutations brought about by nearly a milleniuum of chemical, biological and now nuclear war cannot be cured or avoided. Indeed, he comes to believe that if anything they should be accelerated within the Kaleds themselves, utilising their species' propensity for genetic mutation in the face of radiation.

The stage is set for Davros' final physical and mental transformation.

5.0 out of 5 stars He will survive, 22 Jan 2007

third in the series of four audio plays that tells the back story of davros, the creator of the daleks.

This is written by Lance Parkin, author of the earlier big finish story davros that had a look at some of his past, so there's a little bit of crossover with that, not least the appearance of shan, the lady scientist who could have been the love of his life.

Terry Molloy who plays davros once again proves to be an astonishingly versatile actor. Over the the course of this story davros goes from a scientist who'd like to bring the war that ravaged his homeworld for centuries to an end, to a being who is determined to survive at all costs.

You get the impression that he might approve of the cybermen.

Like the first two plays this is very hard hitting drama, and pulls no punches at times as characters scheme and fight and die. And like the first two, it's excellent
